In 18 days, R Chandru’s most ambitious film to date, Kabzaa, will release in theatres across the world. The film, which has Real Star Upendra in the lead, is a gangster flick about a don who ruled over India, and boasts a massive ensemble cast, including Shriya Saran, Kiccha Sudeep and Shivarajkumar. Prior to the film’s release, Chandru’s plan was to release a teaser, three songs and the trailer and then have people watch it in theatres.
The first song, the Kabzaa theme track, was widely panned with composer Ravi Basrur at the receiving end of a lot of brickbats. The next, a classical dance number featuring Shriya, Namaami Namaami was seen as redemption, but the third, which the team called the celebration song, has netizens raining hell and fury on them. Pramod Maravante’s lyrics, Chum Chum Chali, they said, were the worst they’ve heard in a long time for a special song, while Basrur’s tune got mixed reactions. Another major issue with the song, said netizens, was that the team should have either released the full video and drummed up craze around it, or more visuals, instead of one fleeting glimpse of the hook step.
Comments ranged from, “#Kabzaa celebration song...music was good....lyrics and singers worst in all languages...Yaru star singers and star lyricists sigliwenappa....R chandru ninge....Tirunelveli halwa tinsok ready agidya ansutte yelrigu....🤔🤔....Last hope for buzz is trailer..”, to “Hugely disappointed, can't expect anything from now on and I lost all hopes,,, Final hope is only Trailer”, “Lyrics are not catchy”, “Disappointing”, “Alla video song title aki lyrical bittavralla, reels ku one step nu full torsilla”, and “Beats ok, Poor lyrics 👎👎chandru anna kottid buildup ge song ge match illa”, among others.
All eyes are now on the trailer launch of Kabzaa, which netizens hope will become a talking point for all the right reasons and make the film the next big thing from the Kannada film industry.
