Suri, best known for films like Duniya, Jackie, Tagaru, among many others, says that he needs to do justice to a star of Darshan’s calibre

Duniya Suri is not averse to working with big stars; he has done films with the late Puneeth Rajkumar and Shivarajkumar too, all of which have done well at the box office. But despite this track record, he is yet to collaborate with Challenging Star Darshan. This, says Suri, is not because of a lack of funding – he’s got producers lined up waiting to hear that he’s got a subject for Darshan. And therein lies the problem. Suri does not have a subject yet that he thinks will do justice to a star of Darshan’s calibre. In fact, the filmmaker says that he’s had opportunities to work with the Challenging Star earlier, but the subjects that were pitched did not seem right and Suri did not feel that he was ready to take up such a big responsibility.
Suri, incidentally, was the co-director of Darshan’s 2008 film Suntaragaali, which had Sadhu Kokila in the director’s chair. Having closely interacted with the Challenging Star since then, Suri says that he is acutely aware that if and when he does collaborate with the actor, he needs a potent enough line to develop into a story. Speaking to a Kannada digital platform, the filmmaker says that he needs to do justice not only to Darshan, but to the opportunity of working with him as well. The filmmaker also says that a combination with Darshan would also have to start with getting a title that is apt for him.
The filmmaker’s next, meanwhile, is a film called Bad Manners, which has Junior Rebel Star Abishek Ambareesh in the lead. Also starring Rachita Ram, Sharath Lohithashwa, Poorna Mysore, among others, the film will be in theatres on November 24. The film is seen as Abishek’s relaunch, and has him in the role of a cop investigating a case involving handmade pistols.
