India’s beloved rapper and singer Badshah opened up about his personal struggles and troubled marriage in a recent interview. Shedding light on his failed marriage with ex-wife Jasmine Masih, the singer-rapper revealed that things turned 'very messy’ between them, and cultural differences play a vital part in the same. The ‘Genda Phool’ singer also revealed how his parents warned him about the problems that might arise due to the cultural differences. They also have a daughter named Jessemy.

Badshah on his difficult marriage with Jasmine

Badshah recently shared how his troubled marriage led to emotional trauma. For the unversed, Badshah married the London-based Jasmine after dating for a year. Jasmine is a Christian, while Badshah is Hindu.

Talking about his marriage and daughter in an interview with The Lallantop, Badshah recalled how he met Jasmine years ago via online and mutual friends. He also shared how his parents were a bit skeptical about their relationship due to different cultures and upbringings and they asked him if he was 'sure,’ while predicting the hurdles.

“Ghar waale maan gaye. Woke banne ke chakkar mein kuch bole nahi (They agreed because they probably wanted to be woke). Parents are usually right. They asked me if I was sure,” the Bad Boy singer added.

Notably, this is the first time that the singer-songwriter shared about his failed marriage and the reasons that led to their strained relationship.

Badshah on how cultural differences led to problems

When asked about their troubled relationship, the 38-year-old musician shared that one of the major hurdles is their cultural differences as Jasmine was not able to adapt to Indian culture, which led to a messy breakup.

“She could not adapt to the culture, and it got really messy. But both of us tried very hard to make it work,” Badshah further added.

He even dubbed marriage as a ‘flawed concept’ in today’s era as co-existing with someone with an opinion is a full-time job.

When asked if he is in contact with his daughter, the Let’s Nacho singer nods and says that he is in touch with his 7-year-old daughter Jessemy and goes to meet her in London. “Her name is Jessemy. It’s the Hebrew word for Jasmine. She’s a Christian,” Badshah told the news portal.

Badshah also recalled the tough time when he even sought professional help after experiencing a panic attack.

In the same conversation, the singer shared his thoughts on love and commitment and why one needs to be ‘above average’ when it comes to love and affection. “Do teen cheezein toot ke karni chahiye (One should give their 100 percent to certain important things in life),” he said. When asked if he gave it all while being with Jasmine, he chimed in and said, “Yes, but toot gaya (Yes, but couldn’t sustain).”

Badshah also opened up about the true essence of marriage and how one should only get married after thinking ‘long and hard’ along with a mature mindset and not under any kind of pressure or biological reasons.

Badshah and Jasmine’s romance blossomed after meeting online (via Facebook), followed by a series of dates over a year before tying the knot in 2012.  They were married for 8 years before calling it quits in 2020.
