In the ninth episode of Bails and Banter, Atul Wassan was asked to share his thoughts on Shubman Gill's captaincy and MS Dhoni's captaincy, and also the youth vs the experienced debate. Atul quirkily said, "Put both of them in a mixer and take half and half." He also added, "The king is dead, long live the king! Now Shubman Gill is here, so he is the guy. I think he deserves that aura and the support because he should be treated as a leader. So people should respect him and I think Dhoni understands that too, because of the controlship he had and he had a say in the cricket of the country."

He also said that Shubman Gill will play, lose matches, and then realize the game. Notably, the 18-man Indian squad is led by Shubman Gill, who was appointed India's new Test captain by the selection panel headed by Ajit Agarkar for the upcoming England tour.
Atul said that captaincy is overrated at times and also said that Dhoni was a great captain. When asked whether Dhoni's captaincy has become outdated, Wassan said, "You are actually attributing the success to the quality of this, which is not right. He is playing another role." Atul also added that Dhoni is still playing despite facing criticism and for that he expressed his respect towards Dhoni.
Virat Kohli recently announced his retirement from Test cricket. Talking about that, Atul said, "Why did Virat retire? Because he realized that the average he has, and in case it fails in two or three matches, people will judge him because this is the memory he will leave, because people are not as mature as they judge him by his average runs."
