The first schedule of ace director Bala's Vanangaan has been wrapped up. The team has been filming at the coastal hamlet of Kanyakumari and it looks like they have completed shooting some major portions there. The schedule, we hear, spanned around 25 days. A picture from the set had made the rounds on social media, in which director Bala and stunt choreographer Silva were seen having a discussion. The next schedule is all set to begin in Tiruvannamalai and the shoot is likely to begin on April 17.

After Suriya's exit, the new lead cast comprises Arun Vijay and Roshini Prakash, a popular Kannada actress, who had appeared in films like Kavaludaari and Lucky Man. She has also worked in Tamil films like Yemaali and Jada.

The film's original cast had Suriya in the lead, thus marking the comeback of the iconic duo of Nandha and Pithamagan. Suriya had shared his excitement about teaming up with his mentor after a long span, which is almost two decades. Fans of the actor, too, were quite excited about the comeback. However, when there were no updates from the team after the first schedule, speculations were rife that Suriya had walked out of the project.

The rumours were confirmed after Bala issued a statement that Suriya was no longer part of the film. The statement added, " Suriya completely believes in me and the story of Vanangaan. I didn't want to let down my brother who believes in me and respects me a lot. After mutual discussion, we have both decided that Suriya will no longer be part of the film. Though he is upset about the development, the decision has been taken for his own good. We will come together again, just like we did for Nandha and Pithamagan. However, the film will continue without Suriya." Krithi Shetty and Mamitha Baiju were roped in as the original leading ladies of the film.
