The petite actress Kritika Kamra is best known for work in serials like ‘Kitani Mohabbat Hai’ (where she played the memorable role of Aarohi), Kuch Toh Log Kahenge (as Dr. Nidhi), Reporters (Ananya) and many others. She had even tried her hand in Bollywood with the film ‘Mitron’ and a couple of others. She is now all geared up for her most awaited pet project ‘Bambai Meri Jaan’, in which she will be seen playing the role of a gangster’s sister. OTTplay caught up with the actress for an exclusive interview wherein she not just spoke about her character in the series but also addressed the buzz that her role has been modelled on the lines of Haseena Parkar.
Over to you, Kritika…
‘Bambai Meri Jaan’ in a nutshell…
The series is a crime drama that essentially chronicles the life and rise of the central character Daraa. One gets to see the story from the perspective of the father. It is essentially a family drama against the backdrop of crime. It’s a story of this Kadri family, and how each one for their interpersonal relationships, and their pursuit of power over the city.
My character's name and the character sketch
Well… my character’s name in the series is Habiba Qadri. I am the youngest in the family and also the only daughter. My father is a policeman, who is always on the right side of law. He wants me to follow the same path. Besides that, I am also a doting sister of a brother who chooses the path of crime. And my character is more inclined towards my brother’s worldview. So much so that I aspire to be like him.
More colours and shades to my character in the series
Besides the aforementioned, my character is also that of a young, fearless woman who has a mind of her own. She is someone who is very tactful and is fiercely protective about her family. She is extremely attached to her brother and she always looks up to her brother for almost everything. Besides all these, my character also holds a personal ambition of ruling the city… just like her brother! (smiles).
Here’s the truth to the buzz that my character has been pencilled on the lines of Haseena Parker…
Honestly speaking, the series ‘Bambai Meri Jaan’ is not a biopic of anybody. Also, I wasn't given any distinct brief to watch a particular movie or read anything about one particular person. My character draws its references from a lot of real people. All of these characters and their world come from an idea of the well-known writer Hussein Zaidi and his diverse work. His crime reportage about this part of Mumbai is well known to all and also, he has written many books on the same. So, there are obviously comparisons and references to his previous works. But, having said that, let me tell you that, we approached all of these characters as absolutely original. We just did not go by any reference/s. Here, I would also like to mention that all the research was done on the writing level. But… as actors, we were not told to imitate anybody.
