Banaras, the upcoming Kannada film that is getting a pan-India release on November 4, was expected to be a love story set in the holy city, where about 90% of the narrative unfolds. This perception was based on the romantic number Mayagange, which had been released earlier. The trailer, which was released at a grand event in Bengaluru last evening, in the presence of chief guests, actor-filmmakers Arbaaz Khan and V Ravishandran, did not turn that perception on its head, but revealed another interesting facet about Banaras. Jayathirtha’s launchpad for Zaid Khan, the son of MLA Zameer Ahmed Khan, is a sci-fi film that involved time travel.
Fans who have been responding to the trailer online are intrigued by this quirky element in the story, but what has caught everyone’s attention is that this tale, which flits between present day and the future has a fleeting glimpse of Zaid in front of a movie hall, where the poster of a film was being put up. And eagle-eyed fans have spotted that it is a poster for the fourth installment in the Dhoom franchise, which has been rumoured as a potential project for a while, with several big names supposedly attached to it. But according to Zaid’s Banaras, Dhoom 4 is going to be with Salman Khan. The Dhoom 4 poster has amused fans, who say that the scene is among the best in the trailer. “Best moment of trailer...... Salman bhai in Dhoom 4,” wrote a fan, while another chimed in, “I'm here to watch Salman Khan in Dhoom 4 poster.”
Produced by Tilakraj Ballal, Banaras pairs Zaid with Sonal Monteiro and has Sujay Shastry, Devaraj, Achyuth Kumar, Sapna Raj and Barkath Ali, among others, in pivotal roles. The film has music by Ajaneesh Loknath, and cinematography by Advaith Gurumurthy.
