Dileep’s eagerly anticipated film Bandra, which was released in theatres on November 10, received mixed reviews. Now, Ajith Vinayaka, the producer of the film, has taken legal action against seven YouTube vloggers, alleging that they attempted to cause financial harm to his production by sharing negative reviews of the movie.
Ajith Vinayaka takes legal action against YouTube reviewers
In a petition submitted to the Thiruvananthapuram Judicial First Class Magistrate, producer Ajith Vinayaka stated that the reviews posted within three days of the film's release should be treated not just as criticism but as an act of plunder.
This is not the first time that a producer in Kerala has filed a complaint against vloggers. Recently, the Kochi city police responded to a complaint lodged by Rahel Makan Kora director Ubaini, who claimed that his film was deliberately tarnished and defamed with the intention of extortion and blackmail. Several organisations within the Malayalam film industry have openly voiced their concerns about the harm caused by reviewers.
Bandra continues to do well at BO despite negative reviews
Bandra, which raked in around Rs 1.15 crore on the day of its release, has made over Rs 3.64 crore in 5 days. The action thriller starring Dileep and Tamannaah struggled on Day 2. However, the film managed to pick up and collect around Rs 33 lakh (early estimates on Day 5).
Bandra is inspired by a real-life event
The film is about Alan Alexander Dominic (Dileep), a gangster-turned businessman whose connection with a late Bollywood actress leads to the unravelling of his mysterious past. Although the story is fictional, director Arun Gopy revealed that a Bollywood actress’ link-up with a gangster in the movie is based on a real-life event. It is rumoured that the story is inspired by Haji Mastan and Madhubala’s real-life romance. Their love story reportedly began when Madhubala was stalked and her beauty parlour was attacked by an underworld don’s gang. However, the makers have not delved deep into the details, choosing to keep it under wraps.
Bandra also marks the Malayalam debut of actors Tamannaah and Dino Morea.
