The principal photography of Mohanlal’s directorial debut Barroz: The Guardian of D’Gama’s Treasure concluded a few days ago. Considering that it’s the superstar’s first directorial and also the comeback of My Dear Kuttichathan fame Jijo Punnoose, albeit as a scriptwriter, it was a given that the movie will pack a few surprises. But the latest photo from the sets have revealed a rather pleasant one featuring Pranav Mohanlal.
The Hridayam actor is now rumoured to be part of Mohanlal’s directorial debut. Sources, however, haven't confirmed if he would be seen sharing screen space with the superstar or had assisted him behind the camera. Pranav had begun his career in cinema by working as an assistant director to Jeethu Joseph in films such as Life of Josutty before making the leap to acting with the filmmaker’s Aadhi.
Mohanlal and Pranav had shared screen space earlier in Amal Neerad’s Sagar Alias Jacky, but only for a shot in its after credits sequence. While the duo had acted in Priyadarshan’s Marakkar: Arabikadalinte Simham last year, they didn’t have combination sequences as Pranav played the younger portions of Mohanlal’s Kunjali Marakkar IV.
Barroz, which had an extensive production lasting as much as seven months, wrapped up shooting in Chennai after the team had shot for a song sequence. The movie, which was filmed in Navodaya Studios in Kerala, Goa, Bangkok and Chennai, will now begin its extensive VFX work that is expected to take at least 3-4 months. The film’s post-production work has been happening simultaneously as well.
The movie has Mohanlal playing a ghost who guards a 400-year-old treasure that rightfully belongs to the heir of Vasco Da Gama. The film, which also has a bunch of foreign actors, is touted to be the most expensive Malayalam movie. Guru Somasundaram is also part of the film, which has Santosh Sivan as its cinematographer and Lydian Nadhaswaram as its composer.
