Maranamass, Basil Joseph's most recent dark comedy, is now accessible on SonyLIV as well as OTTplay Premium. Since its April theatrical release, the movie has been trending on social media as people share their opinions about the plot and performances. In the meantime, some people are also making assumptions regarding the potential scope of the film's sequel. In an exclusive interview, OTTplay posed the same question to Siju Sunny, the film's writer.
Siju, who also plays a significant part in the dark comedy as Aruvi, clarified that each character in the movie has the potential to have a detailed backstory. "In Maranamass, we were only able to briefly discuss the pasts of the majority of the characters. There will be a sequel if we ever get an interesting thread to build a backstory of any of these characters," he said.
The Romancham star continued by saying that the audience still is unaware of the background of Babu Antony's character DySP Ajay Ramachandran, why Jikkumon's marriage was repeatedly interrupted, or the reason behind P P Luke's insane demeanour. "We have had multiple conversations at different times, but we have not had a proper landing on how to progress the story," Siju stated.
They still praise Basil Jospeh for his quirky performance, even if many claim that the dark comedy is definitely not to everyone's taste. In this film, the Nunakuzhi actor excels in the role of P P Luke, the Gen Z protagonist. Pravinkoodu Shappu, his most recent movie, is also available for streaming on the same online platform.
The rest of the cast, including Rajesh Madhavan, Siju Sunny, Suresh Krishna, and Anishma Anilkumar, has reportedly also been able to appeal to viewers by enhancing the comedy aspects of the movie. Some others found the movie's allusions to various social media trends to be amusing. This film marks the directorial debut of Sivaprasad.
