Debutant director Chidambaram’s Jan.E.Man emerged as the surprise hit of last year with the comedy entertainer becoming the first Malayalam film to complete 100 days since the pandemic. The film, starring Basil Joseph, Arjun Ashokan, Lal and Balu Varghese, is now also part of a unique list of Malayalam movies that should keep on growing in the coming days.

The film along with Pranav Mohanlal’s Hridayam, Unni Mukundan’s Meppadiyan and Antony Varghese’s Ajagajantharam joined the list of films that are still running in theatres and are available to stream on OTT platforms.

Antony Varghese’s Ajagajantharam too completed 75 days in theatres last week. Both Jan.E.Man and Ajagajantharam dropped on Sun NXT and Sony LIV, respectively, on February 25 and both the Malayalam movies were trending on the respective streaming platforms during the weekend.

Ajagajantharam, directed by Tinu Pappachan, revolves around a group of village youth who lock horns with two mahouts during a temple festival. The movie has Antony Varghese, Sabumon Abdusamad, Arjun Ashokan, Kichu Tellus and Vineeth Vishwam as part of its cast.

Jan.E.Man, which is co-written by brothers Chidambaram and Ganapathi, revolves around a birthday bash and a funeral that happens in opposite houses. Basil plays one of the leads in the film, Joymon, who comes to Kerala from Canada to celebrate his birthday with his friends. The situation turns tense when the partying youth disrupt the melancholy at the neighbouring house where the funeral is being arranged. Arjun Ashokan, Balu Varghese, Lal, Siddharth Menon, Ganapathi, Gilu Joseph and Riya Saira are also part of the cast of the comedy entertainer, which released in theatres in November 2021.

While Hridayam and Meppadiyan are also running in theatres, the entry of Ajagajantharam and Jan.E.Man in the list is even more impressive as the films clocked more than 75 days each since its theatrical release. Anaswara Rajan and Mamitha Baiju’s Super Sharanya, which also has Arjun Ashokan, is the next most-awaited OTT release in Malayalam.
