If Mohanlal’s Empuraan is the big Eid presentation at the Kerala box office this week, Mammootty was set to follow him only 2 weeks later, with a Vishu release, Bazooka. The film, directed by debutant Deeno Dennis has been described as a game/action thriller, wherein a cop and a businessman team up to capture a serial killer, using a series of elaborate games to track him down. Ahead of the film’s April 10 theatrical release, the trailer dropped moments ago, but the response has not been very exciting.

On a day on which not, one, two but three Malayalam trailers dropped, audiences had a lot to work through. Starting with Mohanlal’s Thudarum, followed by Alappuzha Gymkhana and now, Bazooka. The buzz on social media, though, is that Bazooka was the weakest of the lot. And if that wasn’t bad enough, netizens also said that the Mammootty starrer’s teaser was better than the trailer.
Comments ranged from “Unimpressive dialogues, mediocre frames are marks of weak direction”, to, “Bazooka trailer felt limp and lifeless; teaser was good. Let’s hope for the best”, “Expecting a turbo 2.0 situation... director make chaythu vechittu ondellum , Music karnam oru impact illatha avstha avum enna thonnuney”, “Among the trailers seen today, Bazooka was the most lukewarm one. Whatever hype the film had has come down massively,” and “Bazooka trailer was mediocre. The making felt like a Hindi serial”, among others.
The film also stars filmmaker Gautham Vasudev Menon in a main role as the cop Benjamin Joshua, who teams up with Mammootty’s Vinod Menon to capture a “daredevil antagonist”. Joining them on the cast are Babu Antony, Neeta Pillai, Sidharth Bharathan, Sharaf U Dheen, Jagadish, Shine Tom Chacko, Shammi Thilakan and many others. Written by the director, Bazooka has music by Saeed Abbas, who sung the Marpapa number in Unni Mukundan’s film, Marco.
