A retired IAF pilot's tweet went viral after he took a dig at an action sequence in Thalapathy Vijay's Beast. Sharing a clip from the film, he captioned it, "I have so many questions." The video (which has been pulled down, owing to the copyright issue) garnered over one million views and several reactions.
Another user, Major Amit, said his brain went numb. "Can't think further. All logic has gone in the drain."
Even SA Chandrasekhar slammed Nelson Dilipkumar for having made a movie ‘solely relying’ on Vijay’s stardom. In a recent interview, Vijay’s father-filmmaker-actor expressed disappointment over the film’s screenplay and questioned Nelson for not doing his ‘homework’ on RAW agents and cross-border terrorism. Further, he rued, "These days, young directors deliver an excellent debut film; in terms of content, technology and making. They somehow bag their second film. The moment they begin to direct Superstars, they think they can make movies whichever way we want!"
Speaking about the challenges involved while shooting Beast, Nelson told the Hindu, “There were logistical challenges. We couldn’t shoot Vijay sir in a mall so we had to construct a real mall. That alone took five months. I was posed with two challenges. That it should satisfy the ‘mass’ audience but at the same time, be a 'different kind' of Vijay film."
Nelson told the Hindu, "Vijay sir was particularly impressed by Veera Raghavan. It was written, mirroring the actor’s real-life persona — as someone who is stoic and shy. There was no restriction from Vijay sir; he didn’t impose his opinions on me."
The director wanted Veera Raghavan, a RAW agent, to embody a certain style and attitude like John Wick. “The character has the demeanour of a thug,” Nelson told the Hindu.
Beast features Vijay as a former RAW agent who tries to rescue people held hostage in a shopping mall by terrorists.
Beast currently premiers on Netflix in the five languages namely Hindi, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, and Tamil.
Also starring director Selvaraghavan, Yogi Babu, Pooja Hegde, Sathish, VTV Ganesh, and others, Beast has music by Anirudh Ravichander.
