It’s been a while since Thalapathy Vijay had done an all-out action film and in that regard the hype for his latest release Beast, which had him teaming up with Doctor director Nelson Dilipkumar, was unparalleled. With the movie releasing in theatres today and shows beginning from early morning, the first reviews are already out.
The action-thriller, which also has Pooja Hegde, Aparna Das, Shine Tom Chacko, Yogi Babu and Selvaraghavan in pivotal roles, has Vijay playing a RAW agent responsible for undertaking several tough missions for the country. This time the film’s protagonist – Veera Raghavan – takes on the mission of protecting a group of people who are trapped inside a mall.
The movie will be releasing in over 900 theatres in Tamil Nadu alone. Kerala will be playing the film in a record 600+ screens while the Telugu states have allotted another 500 theatres for the Vijay-starrer, which is expected to draw in huge numbers in box office figures.
While Beast is touted to be a full-fledged action film, considering Nelson’s previous film Doctor, it promises a clever blend of comedy and action to keep the audience entertained throughout. The film’s songs – Arabic Kuthu and Jolly Gymkhana – have already gone viral and the visuals promises to be another treat. Let’s take a look at the first reviews of the much-anticipated movie, which is 2 hours and 38 minutes long.
Most of the praise have been reserved for the first half of the film with many already calling it a 'paisa-vasool' entertainer by the time the "impressive" interval block had played out. Vijay's screen presence as well as the action scenes of the movie was lauded by the audience.
It seems that the hype of Arabic Kuthu was well worth it, with many praising Vijay's dance in the song as well as its visuals. Gear up for the Arabic Kuthu fever to surge once the visuals are out, say the audience. Anirudh Ravichander's music too seems to have won hearts.
Some have also pointed out that the film lacks strong villains and the hijacking portions aren't as intense as they should be. The second half also apparently flounders the momentum built up by the entertaining first half. Audiences also called out the silly, stylised action scenes that lacked logic.
Irrespective of the downsides, the movie seems poised for a record-breaking run at the box office - even with KGF: Chapter 2 set to release on April 14.
