Vijay’s Beast, directed by Nelson, was one of the biggest South Indian releases of the year. The movie received mixed to negative reviews following its release and now Vijay’s father has come out criticizing its makers.

During a recent interview as reported by Indian Express, Vijay’s father SA Chandrasekhar said that he enjoyed the song Arabic Kuthu just like any other die-hard fan but the movie was made solely relying on Vijay’s stardom. The writer-producer slammed young directors, saying that they do well in their first two films in terms of content, technology and making but start thinking there is no need for a screenplay once they get the date of big stars.

Chandrasekhar had further criticism for Nelson, saying, “The magic is there in the screenplay. You can’t lightly handle a very heavy subject, which is about international terrorist organisations.”

He further added that the director needed to take time to study and understand what it means to be a RAW agent or what the military is.

Written and directed by Nelson, Beast is an action comedy which has Vijay play the role of a former RAW agent trapped in a mall taken hostage by terrorists. The movie came out on April 13 and received negative reviews, but did well in the box office.

“Nelson, who made heads turn with the right mix of humour, suspense and action in Kolamavu Kokila and Doctor, couldn't repeat the magic he came up with in those two films. Beast has enough elements required to impress fans of Vijay, but the movie falls short of expectations.” reads the movie’s review on OTTplay.

Also starring Pooja Hegde, Selvaraghavan, Yogi Babu, Redin Kinsley and Shine Tom Chacko among others, the movie is available in theatres.
