Beast: Vijay’s hostage action comedy sets opening day records in Tamil Nadu

Vijay’s Beast was one of the most-anticipated South Indian movies of the year and it opened to mixed reviews. Despite its reviews, the movie has done fantastic business on its opening day.

The movie opened to more than 900 screens in the state of Tamil Nadu, and reportedly collected more than Rs. 30 crore on its first day. This makes the action comedy the highest grossing movie on opening day in the state.

Beast also collected an impressive Rs. 1.96 crore in the city of Chennai on day one, making it the highest grossing movie in Chennai city on Day 1 post pandemic. Ajith Kumar’s action thriller Valimai (Rs. 1.82 crore) and Rajinikanth’s Annaatthe (Rs. 1.71 crore) are currently in the second and third spot respectively.

Beast has had great openings across the globe, and has done exceptionally well in the box office across the world. The movie has also reportedly become the highest grossing Tamil movie in the USA, Australia and New Zealand.

Directed by Nelson, the movie also stars Selvaraghavan, Pooja Hegde, Yogi Babu, Redin Kingsley, Shaji Chen, Aparna Das, and Ankur Ajit Vikal among others. The hostage action comedy also has music composed by Anirudh Ravichander.

“Fans of the star are in for a treat watching him in the scenes where he wields different kinds of weapon to vanquish the baddies. Anirudh's electrifying background score is another positive aspect of the movie. The combination of Nelson-Anirudh and Vijay-Anirudh have managed to meet the gargantuan expectations for the third time.” read the movie’s review on OTTplay.

Beast, which has done good business despite only mixed reviews, is available in theatres around the world.
