One may feel there’s very little that football lovers across the globe haven’t discovered about their sports icon David Beckham. However, a new documentary out on OTT sets to prove them wrong. Titled Beckham, the show, spanning four episodes is directed by Fisher Stevens and produced by John Battsek, promises to offer a never-seen-before peek into the highs and lows in his life.

Beckham was out on OTT earlier today, premiering on the leading streamer Netflix. The show tries to understand the footballer beyond his public image with intriguing insights from his family, friends and teammates including wife Victoria Beckham, Ted and Sandra Beckham, Gary Neville, Eric Cantona, Sir Alex Ferguson, Rio Ferdinand, Paul Scholes, Roy Keane and others.

Arriving nearly a decade after Beckham’s retirement, the sportsman assures there’s more to the show beyond his football career, says, “It’s about my family, being married to a Spice Girl, and my journey, really. It’s been a roller coaster of emotions, but it’s been special making it.” The documentary shows the price he had to pay for being a matchless footballer on the field for several years.

David Beckham, who had started his career in the 90s with Manchester United, hailing from a working-class family in East London, came with an unmistakable drive to succeed and hunger to prove himself on the pitch. However, fame wasn’t going to be an easy beast to handle. Yet, in his stint with United, he championed the team to several memorable victories, braving past a handful of setbacks too.

While the first episode titled The Kick takes viewers through Beckham’s formative years and the subsequent rise to prominence in soccer with Manchester United. The second episode, Seeing Red, has Beckham and Victoria reliving the infamous red card incident at the 1998 World Cup. The third episode, Goldenballs, shows how he struck a balance between sports and family life. The final episode What Makes David Run is a look at his career before retirement.
