Amazon Prime Video released the official trailer of Being the Ricardos, the highly-anticipated biopic from filmmaker Aaron Sorkin.
The film features Nicole Kidman as American actress Lucille Ball, while Javier Bardem is Desi Arnaz. The story will see them "encounter a crisis that could jeopardise their careers and marriage during production of an I Love Lucy episode," according to the synopsis available on YouTube.
The aforementioned crisis is FBI's investigation of Ball for her affiliation with the Communist Party in 1936. The Wrap writes that Sorkin has also taken some creative liberties and fictionalised some aspects of their story, just like he did with the 2015 drama Steve Jobs.
Before Kidman took on the role, Cate Blanchett was in talks to join the film. The Wrap also mentions that Ball and Arnaz's daughter Lucie Arnaz recently lent support to the film, which she said captures "the heart of my mother and my father."
Jake Lacy, JK Simmons, Nina Arianda, Tony Hale, and Alia Shawkat are also part of the cast.
Sorkin is known for shows like The West Wing and Newsroom for which he won multiple awards. This is his third directorial after Molly's Game in 2017, and Academy Award nominated The Trial of the Chicago 7 in 2020 (available to stream on Netflix).
Kidman was last seen in The Prom on Netflix, and Hulu series Nine Perfect Strangers. Meanwhile, Bardem was a part of Dennis Villeneuve's adaptation of Frank Herbert's epic sci-fi novel Dune wit h Timothee Chalamet, Zendaya, Rebecca Ferguson, and Oscar Isaac.
Being the Ricardos will be released on Amazon Prime Video on December 21.
