Bejoy Nambiar, who is helming Adarsh Gourav and Shanaya Kapoor’s Tu Yaa Main with Aanand L. Rai serving as the producer of the movie, was once going to collaborate with the filmmaker on Raanjhanaa. Bejoy, while speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, revealed that he was actually involved with the process of Raanjhanaa right from bringing Dhanush on-board for the film to almost directing an important song in the movie. Here’s everything he revealed…

Bejoy Nambiar was directing Wazir, when Aanand L. Rai called him for Raanjhanaa. Bejoy, despite not having his name associated with the project, actually played a crucial role in the shaping of the film. He was in Shailesh Singh’s office, where Aanand L. Rai used to regularly visit. There, his first interaction with the producer of Tu Yaa Main was about casting Dhanush in the Hindi movie that would stay back with people. “He (Aanand L. Rai) called me and asked what do I think about Dhanush as an actor. I said he’s great in Tamil films. He had called me to convince the people who did not back him when he wanted to take Dhanush in a Hindi film. My question was – but Dhanush ko Hindi aata hai kya? Prompt he said, Woh main sikha dunga yaar. Tu inko bol kitna accha actor hai. There were 4-5 people there and I had to convince them,” Bejoy remembered.
Bejoy Nambiar revealed that Aanand L. Rai also tried to rope him to direct the song Tu Mun Shudi from Raanjhanaa. “He asked me to come and direct a song for him. It was the Abhay Deol song, Tu Mun Shudi. He said he wanted the cool visuals for it,” the director recalled. He heard the narration for the song, but kept it on hold by telling Aanand L. Rai that the narration sounds good and the filmmaker should go ahead with it. Recalling the same, Bejoy shared, “He got stuck in the schedule, and I followed up twice but then decided not to push it too much. Later, I heard that he shot the song. When I saw the song, it was fab and I felt that I missed that opportunity.”
