Good Omens fans awaiting Benedict Cumberbatch and Frances McDormand’s return in the show’s upcoming season are in for some disappointing news. It was announced that the duo, who voiced Satan and God respectively on the show’s first season, will not be returning for season two.

According to a report in Deadline, the cast members confirmed to return for the new season include Michael Sheen, David Tennant, Jon Hamm, Miranda Richardson, Maggie Service, Nina Sosanya, Doon Mackichan, Gloria Obianyo, Liz Carr, Quelin Sepulveda, Shelley Conn, Derek Jacobi , Mark Gatiss, Steve Pemberton, Reece Shearsmith and Niamh Walsh.

They will be joined by newcomers Dame Siân Phillips, Tim Downie, Pete Firman, Andi Osho and Alex Norton.

The series is based on Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett’s 1990 novel of the same name. It follows the story of an angel and demon, named Aziraphale and Crowley, who are tasked as guardians to the antichrist who takes birth as an ordinary boy on Earth. As the boy’s coming of age will signal the start of Armageddon, a war between Heaven and Hell that will destroy humanity, the duo decides to team up to prevent the catastrophe.

Gaiman, who also serves as the show’s writer and co-showrunner had expressed his excitement at so many of the previous season’s cast returning. He also revealed that while some of them will be reprising their roles from the previous seasons, some will play new characters.

The production for the second season is currently underway in Scotland.

Good Omens Season 2 will premiere on Amazon Prime Video, with a release date for the same yet to be announced. The show’s first season is available to stream on the platform.
