The LGBTQ+ community has been able to come out more openly and present their stories to the world, which have been as beautiful, as complex and as harrowing as the story of any other section of the society.

Uncle Frank

Set in the 1970s, Uncle Frank is a road movie about a gay man who confronts his past. Frank is a gay literature professor who reluctantly returns home to attend his father's funeral. He is accompanied by his teenage niece who studies in the same college he teaches. They are followed by Frank’s boyfriend Wally who Frank does not want his family to meet. After a series of incidents, Frank reveals what led him to start drinking and flee from his family.

Porcupine Lake

Porcupine Lake is a story of the bravery and secret life of two young girls set in Northern Ontario, Canada. The story takes place during the hot and hazy summers when adulthood has not yet arrived, but childhood is quickly vanishing. The movie was screened in the Contemporary World Cinema section at the 2017 Toronto International Film Festival

Rocketman

Rocketman is a 2019 biographical musical fantasy drama film based on the life and music of British musician Elton John. After completing his studies, Elton begins to perform rock music at local pubs and meets Bernie, who later leaves him. He then meets a music manager named John Reid who helps him rise to fame, but also makes Elton’s personal life miserable.

Portrait of a Lady on Fire

Portrait of a Lady on Fire is a French historical romantic drama film that tells the story of an affair between an aristocrat and a painter commissioned to paint her. Set in France in the 1770s, Marianne, a painter, is commissioned to do the wedding portrait of Héloïse, a young woman who has just left the convent. Héloïse is a reluctant bride-to-be and Marianne must paint her without her knowing. She observes her by day, so that she can paint her secretly.

Call Me By Your Name

Call Me by Your Name is an Italian-American coming-of-age romantic drama that chronicles the romantic relationship between a 17-year-old Elio Perlman (Timothée Chalamet) and a 24-year-old graduate-student Oliver (Armie Hammer). Oliver is Elio's father (Michael Stuhlbarg), an archaeology professor’s assistant. Although their relationship is temporary, Elio realises his sexual orientation and tries to come to terms with it.

I AM

I Am is a 2010 Indian anthology film consisting of four short films: Omar, Afia, Abhimanyu, and Megha. Omar revolves around the theme of gay rights and is inspired by stories and research material provided by the online portal Gay Bombay. Jai (Rahul Bose), who hails from Bangalore, meets Omar (Arjun Mathur), who is a struggling actor in Mumbai. They flirt and have dinner together. The date is followed by lovemaking in a public place. A policeman (Abhimanyu Singh) catches them in the act and manhandles them. He also threatens to arrest Jai if the latter does not give a bribe of 1,00,000. Jai manages to give him 50,000 so that he and Omar can escape, only to realise that Omar is part of a gang set up to extort money from gay men.
