Bhediya song Apna Bana Le: Varun Dhawan-Kriti Sanon’s video makes up for what the tunes couldn’t

Bhediya’s new song Apna Bana Le is out and the track, featuring Varun Dhawan and Kriti Sanon, is only touted romantic. The tune barely engages you not only because it is slow but because even the hook comes way later. Thankfully, the visuals of this song make up for what the tunes couldn’t.

Apna Bana Le is in fact a phrase that has been forced into the song. While the track is all about praising Kriti’s character Dr. Anika, it randomly moves to demanding her to be his.

The song literally calls her a stranger and in the same breath, she becomes his sunshine every morning. The change in story told through this track is far too less an issue in front of the contrasting statements in the song’s lyrics.

Half the song is about that and the other half is Varun’s Bhediya character singing, “Apna bana le piya mujhe apna bana le.” Loudly. In what should have been a sweet romantic song.

The cinematography and locations in the song are the only thing that work. Of course, some actions like Varun playing with a dog and then behaving like one himself, are cute.

The romantic setup here isn’t through the song. It is through the setting. The couple sits near a green hill which is surrounded by water. That’s the effort taken to make it a romantic song. Everything else is either a mix-and-match of other romantic moments from previous songs or the romance just doesn’t exist.

Kriti’s old-fashioned hairstyle, which is her look in the film, does not help her cause to a great extent. In frames, she’s a reminder of Shuili from October.

Nonetheless, Apna Bana Le has great visuals and that makes watching the song worth it. Not the tunes, not the romance but the romantic locations.

Bhediya also features Abhishek Banerjee and Deepak Dobriyal in pivotal roles. ‘Stree’ Shraddha Kapoor also makes a song appearance in the film which is slated to release in theatres on November 25, 2022.
