The COVID-19 situation that took the world by storm led to crises of unprecedented nature. The entire country saw a near complete shutdown when the lockdowns were declared, and migrant labourers were among the hardest hit. Anubhav Sinha revisits this tragic tale in the country’s history through his upcoming socio-political drama, Bheed, starring Rajkummar Rao and Bhumi Pednekar in lead roles. The makers recently unveiled the teaser of the upcoming film, which gives first glimpses of the characters of Rao and Pednekar, as well as the rest of the cast including Kritika Kamra, Ashutosh Rana, Dia Mirza, and Pankaj Kapur.

The black and white teaser, shared by Pednekar on her official Instagram handle, features some gut wrenching glimpses of the haunting crisis, where even the most powerful seemed to have left migrant labourers to their plight, forcing the latter to travel long distances, sometimes on foot, to reach their homes.

The post was captioned “A crisis that created borders within the country and its people”.

The film’s trailer will be released on March 9.

Check out the teaser of Bheed below:

The upcoming film marks Sinha’s latest directorial since Ayushmann Khurrana’s Anek, and Rao and Pednekar’s first collaboration since Badhai Do. Virendra Saxena, Aditya Shrivastav, and Karan Pandit will also essay important roles in the upcoming film.

In a statement, the director had said “Bheed is a story that sheds light on the social disparity that the country faced in the toughest of times. It was imperative for me to bring this story to life and share it with the audience”.

The film is produced under the banners of Bhushan Kumar's T-Series and Sinha’s Benaras Mediaworks.

Bheed will be released in cinemas on March 24, 2023, which marks the third anniversary of the declaration of the first lockdown in the country.
