February is the month of love. It is also the usual time to savour a series of love stories on the screen. However, this year, it is different. It seems to be a mixed bag of social drama, action and horror films, and web series in Bengali. Here is a lowdown of films and web series to look forward to. 

OTT releases:

Chemistry Mashi:

Debashree Roy is set to debut on OTT with Sourav Chakrtaborty’s drama, Chemistry Mashi. The series delves into the life of a middle-aged woman who starts to teach chemistry through her vlogs. This irks the local tutorial houses and she faces hurdles. The trailer is out and the series will be streaming on Hoichoi from February 14.

Shaktirupenn: 

This Klikk series is Rezwan Rabbani Sheikh and Basabdatta Chatterjee’s debut on the web. While the show will be directed by Shaheb – a veteran TV director, the project is the brainchild of Rajdeep Ghosh. It delves into the relationship between the two characters in the backdrop of a gangrape in Sutia, a village in West Bengal.

Preme Pora Baron: 

With Anindya Sengupta and Debchandrima in the lead, Preme Pora Baron is the only romantic web show in February. Directed by Toton, the romantic show will be dropped on February 14 on Addatimes. 

Theatrical releases

Pariah: 

Directed by Tathagata Mukherjee, Pariah features Vikram Chatterjee as an out-and-out action avatar. The film which also features Angana Roy, Sreelekha Mitra, Loknath Dey, and others sees Vikram as the protector of Indian stray dogs. It will be released on February 9.

Bhootpori:

Directed by Soukarya Ghosal, the film features Jaya Ahsan as Bonolota – a ghost. She can scare people off but can’t do any real harm. Ritwick Chakraborty plays the narrator, Makhan, in the film. Bhootpari will be released on February 9. 

Sedin Kuasha Chilo: 

Directed by Arnab Midya, the film features Jeetu Kamal, Paran Bandyopadhyay, Lily Chakraborty, Arna Mukhopadhyay, Sauraseni Maitra, and others. Billed as a relationship drama, the show will be dropped on February 9.
