Veteran thespian Bibhas Chakraborty suffered a cardiac attack recently. He was rushed to a private hospital by EM Bypass. After preliminary supervision, the doctors said that his condition is stable for now.
The octogenarian theatre personality has been ailing due to age-related problems for a few months. His nephew Baijayanta Chakraborty said that Bibhas was at his home on Friday, where he suddenly felt unwell. He was taken to the hospital where his condition deteriorated. The doctors decided to do an angiogram. The test shows one of his arteries is blocked. A quick angioplasty was carried and a stent was put in his heart. He is now stable, though Bengal's theatre arena is anxious at the news of his sickness.
Bibhas joined Nandikar in 1960. He acted in many plays there, directed by Ajitesh Bandyopadhyay. He left Nandikar in 1966 and formed Theatre Workshop. He formed Onyo Theatre in 1985. Bibhas has been a member of the West Bengal Natya Akademi since its inception. He dropped his membership in Natya Akademi in 2018 due to age-related issues.
