Bichagadu: Vijay Antony’s blockbuster to make a splash at the big screen again

Vijay Antony is a man of many talents. While he was immensely successful as a singer, composer, he seamlessly transitioned into an actor, producer, director and an editor later. As an actor-producer, Bichagadu was the biggest gamechanger in his career. The Telugu dubbed version went onto gross more than the original and fetched solid profits for producer Chadalavada Srinivasa Rao in Telugu states.

The actor recently made his directorial debut with Bichagadu 2, the sequel to the emotional drama, which too was a hit with Telugu crowds. While he was last seen in the investigative thriller Hatya, he’ll be entertaining viewers on the big screen again. For those curious, it’s not a new project. His blockbuster Bichagadu is all set to return to the big-screen.

Bichagadu will be re-releasing in theatres this Vinayaka Chaturthi on September 15. Sri Tirumala Tirupati Venkateswara Films, the banner that distributed the drama seven years ago, is leaving no stone unturned to re-release the film on a grand scale. Satna Titus was the female lead in the drama while Dheepa Ramanujam, Bagavathi Perumal, Vazhakku En Muthuraman essayed key roles.

Directed by Sasi, Bichagadu is the story of an industrialist who undertakes a vow, turns a beggar for the well-being of his mother. Vandha Devulle, the number from the film focusing on the protagonist’s love for his mom, was a hit with listeners too. Prasanna Kumar was the cinematographer for the film edited by Veera Senthil Raj. Bhashyasree wrote the dialogues for the Telugu version.

With several films like Chandramukhi 2, Skanda postponing their release to September 28, the only major release this festive season is Vishal’s Mark Antony (apart from Abhai Naveen’s political comedy Ramanna Youth). Bichagadu makers couldn’t have asked for a better window to re-release their film in theatres. The film can also be streamed on Sun NXT and OTTPlay Premium.
