The recent meeting between Amal Neerad and Dulquer Salmaan has got the grapevine buzzing. While anything to do with Bheeshma Parvam director Amal Neerad these days gets the Twitteratis talking about Big B sequel Bilal, recent reports suggest that the filmmaker might actually give the fans what they want.
While an official update of Bilal is still awaited, a report suggests that Amal Neerad could actually be working on a prequel web series featuring the protagonist’s years in Mumbai. What would further get the fans excited is that Dulquer Salmaan could be playing Bilal in the prequel, which will focus on the character’s life during his 30s in the Mumbai underworld. There has not been an official confirmation regarding this.
Meanwhile, Dulquer is set to make his web series debut with Raj and DK’s Guns and Gulaabs, which will premiere on Netflix. The show, which is set in the 90s, will also star Rajkummar Rao and Adarsh Gourav in lead roles.
In an earlier interview with OTTplay, Dulquer talked about his webseries debut. “For my OTT debut too, there was a lot of stuff that came my way that I would headline. But a lot of them were remakes. I have been fighting so hard for the past 10 years to not do remakes, even though sometimes they are plum, lucrative or visible projects. But I wanted to stick to this principle that I decided even before I became an actor, that I will never do remakes or sequels of my father’s films,” said the Sita Ramam star, who is next set to play a gangster in King of Kotha.
There’s also a rumour that Amal is having a discussion with Fahadh Faasil for a project. Again, it’s unclear whether the two, who had previously worked together in Iyobinte Pusthakam and Varathan, are collaborating on Bilal sequel, Big B prequel or an entirely different project. Amal, whose previous film Bheeshma Parvam, also has left possibilities to explore the past of its central character Michael Anjootti and his rise.
