Big Girls Don’t Cry: Release date, plot, cast, trailer, and everything there is to know about the Nitya Mehra-created series

After making her mark in Hollywood, actress Avantika Vandanapu is all set to make her Hindi acting debut with the Amazon Prime Video series Big Girls Don’t Cry, starring Aneet Padda, Dalai, Vidushi, Lhakyila, Afrah Sayed and Akshita Sood. This Nitya Mehra-created series explores themes of sisterhood and female friendships while navigating through high school life.

Plot

Set in the backdrop of an all-girls boarding school, Big Girls Don’t Cry showcases the rigid structure of the school structure and the female friendships that persevere amid all the hardships.

Cast and crew

Apart from the four young leading ladies, actress Pooja Bhatt, Raima Sen, Zoya Hussain and Mukul Chadda also play pivotal roles in the series. The show is created by Nitya Mehra and co-directed by Nitya Mehra, Sudhanshu Saria, Karan Kapadia, and Kopal Naithani.

The trailer of the series was released recently giving us a glimpse inside the school system of Vandana Valley where students are gearing up to make the most out of their final year in school. Amid existing bonds, a new admission called Kavya Yadav (played by Vidushi) tries to make her way into making new friends. Apart from Kavya, all the ladies in the school are fighting their personal battles which further cause chaos in their school life.

Release date

Big Girls Don’t Cry will make its world premiere on Amazon Prime Video on March 14 in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada.

Speaking about why she accepted the role of playing the principal’s character in the web series, Pooja Bhatt said she loved the way characters build a sense of self over time and overcome gender bias and stereotypes. “I said yes to Big Girls Don’t Cry because I was drawn to the story, the setting, and the characters in it. As a rebellious teenager who never shied away from speaking my mind and questioning authority, it was such a kick to play Anita Verma. What I loved was that within the series, the characters develop a healthy sense of self and strive to overcome gender bias and stereotypes,” she said.
