Bigg Boss 9 Telugu winner: Kalyan Padala lifts the trophy, Thanuja runner-up, season ends with a mixed response

Bigg Boss 9 Telugu has finally come to an end after a 104-day run, and Kalyan Padala has won the title for the ninth season. This marks the first time a common man has won the Bigg Boss Telugu title. Kalyan Padala entered the show as a commoner through the pre-show Agnipariksha and has now emerged as the winner.

Kalyan Padala wins Bigg Boss 9 Telugu

We at OTTplay had earlier reported that the fight for the top spot was between Kalyan Padala and Thanuja Puttaswamy, with Kalyan having an edge, and the same has played out. The audience voted overwhelmingly in favour of Kalyan, who is an army man.

During the grand finale, Sanjjanaa Galrani was the first contestant to be eliminated from the top five, followed by Emmanuel. With three contestants remaining, Demon Pavan—another common man—was the next to exit after accepting Rs 15 lakhs and walking out of the show.

The final twist came when Akkineni Nagarjuna entered the house and brought back Thanuja and Kalyan Padala, eventually announcing the winner. Right from day one, Thanuja Puttaswamy was one of the favourites and had been leading in the voting. 

However, in the final two weeks, the tide turned as Kalyan Padala’s popularity grew by leaps and bounds. There is also talk that a section of the audience did not want a non-Telugu contestant to win, which may have shifted votes towards Kalyan Padala, resulting in Thanuja finishing as the runner-up. 

As the prize money was divided, Kalyan Padala takes home Rs 35 lakhs from the show. He has won a swanky new Maruthi Victoris which has been launched newly. 

A disappointing aspect for some viewers is that, once again, a male contestant has won the show, with the chance for a woman to lift the trophy slipping away yet again.

Akkineni Nagarjuna hosted the grand finale, which featured several high-energy performances. Overall, the season received mixed responses, with many viewers expressing disappointment over the relatively lesser-known celebrity contestants and the large number of commoners.
