The way Kannada superstar Kiccha Sudeep repeatedly spoke about his resolve to not return as host of the reality show Bigg Boss Kannada after the completion of season 11, and that his focus was on doing at least 2 films in a span of 18 months, gave his fans hope if being able to celebrate him routinely on the big screen. But then only months later, he’s done a complete U-turn and will not only host the upcoming 12th season of Bigg Boss Kannada, but has also signed a 4 year contract, so he will be around till Season 15.
Hardcore Sudeep fans have, of course, been disappointed by this turn of events. Since Season 10 of Bigg Boss Kannada they have been urging him to give up, not only on the reality show, but his cricket activities too, given that the actor spends considerable time on organizing the Karnataka Chalanachitra Cup as well as the skipper of the Sandalwood team at the Celebrity Cricket League (CCL). Together, Bigg Boss Kannada and CCL were taking up too much time – time that they reckoned he could have spent making a movie or two instead.
Fans were also not thrilled with the way Bigg Boss Kannada had been shaping up since the departure of channel head Parameshwar Gundkal. The quality of contestants and their behaviour on the show were worrisome factors for Sudeep’s fans. In fact, the actor himself had addressed that schooling contestants week-on-week had become stressful for him.
Following the release of Max for Christmas 2024, it wasn’t until April 2025 that the actor finally went on set to begin work on the ambitious project Billa Ranga Baashaa. Another film, likely with Max director Vijay Kartikeyaa, is reportedly being announced this week, and Sudeep is confident of sticking to his promise of having at least a film out shortly. In fact, he is hopeful of a release in 2025 itself.
Sudeep’s decision to return to Bigg Boss Kannada 12, has given ample fodder to trolls as well, who have dug up an old interview of producer Surappa stating that the reality show is a major source of income for the actor. Money was, indeed a talking point at the recent press conference to announce that Sudeep was still on board as the host. While he maintained that doing Bigg Boss Kannada was never about the money, he candidly admitted that there had been an increment in his payout.
Inerestingly enough, during the promotions of Max, Sudeep had also spoken about a shelf life for himself as far as his acting career goes. Does the Bigg Boss Kannada hosting duty have anything to do with that?
