Biju Menon slammed for skipping film promotions: 'Producer suffered Rs 25 lakh loss'

Senior Malayalam actor Biju Menon, who has excelled in both comedy and character roles, is at the receiving end of some harsh criticisms. Film Employees Federation of Kerala (FEFKA) general secretary B Unnikrishnan publicly raised serious allegations against the actor, accusing him of not attending film promotions, despite it being clearly stated in the contract.

During a press meet on February 9, B Unnikrishnan, who is also a director, called out actors who turn up late for shooting and thus delaying the entire filming process. Another grievance the FEFKA official flagged was actors skipping film promotions, that have become integral to the movie business.

“A leading Malayalam actor did not attend film promotions. Due to this, a producer, who is also a director and a member of our association, missed out on getting Rs 25 lakh from what he was supposed to receive from a channel. Is that a small amount?” he asked during the meet.

Raising further allegations, Unnikrishnan said that the same actor did not turn up for the promotions for the recent Jeethu Joseph film, Valathu Vashathe Kallan. “I am talking about Biju Menon. I am not someone who would hesitate in taking names. Isn't this part of the producer association's contract?” Unnikrishnan asked. Valathu Vashathe Kallan was released in theatres on January 30, and opened to mixed reviews.

However, Biju Menon has not yet responded to the public allegations made by B Unnikrishnan which has become a hot topic of discussion among Malayalam cinephiles.

Biju Menon was last seen in the thriller film, Valathu Vashathe Kallan, helmed by Jeethu Joseph. He played a corrupt cop, CI Antony Xavier, in the movie, which also featured actor Joju George in the other lead role of Samuel. Director Jeethu Joseph had taken part in several promotional interviews with other cast members, including Lena. However, Biju Menon was seen only at the post-release press meet of Valathu Vashathe Kallan. Nobtaly, Joju George was also not seen attending promotional interviews of Valathu Vashathe Kallan.
