Bili Chukki Halli Hakki trailer: Mahira maker Mahesh Gowdha presents a story about vitiligo

Kannada filmmaker Mahesh Gowdha, who’d earlier made the thriller Mahira, featuring Raj B Shetty and Chaithra J Achar, among others, is turning hero for his next. Called Bili Chukki Halli Hakki, the film, according to Mahesh was meant to be the first Indian film about vitiligo, the condition of losing skin pigment, resulting in white patches. The Malayalam film Thalavara may have beaten him with respect to being the first on the subject, but unlike the former, Bili Chukki Halli Hakki’s leading man actually lives with the condition.

Mahesh has turned leading man for his film, which will be in theatres on October 24. A trailer was released earlier today, featuring the actor-filmmaker, as an unmarried man with the skin condition, in a tale about how his family and society at large reacts to it. From social rejection, to eventually winning over a girl and how their relationship then develops is what Bili Chukki Halli Hakki explores.

In earlier media interactions, Mahesh had said that while the basic intention was to create awareness about the condition, the core of his movie would be entertainment, without being preachy. Going by the trailer, the filmmaker has stuck to that promise. Mahesh has put together a rom-com that he believes will appeal to audiences.

The film also stars Kajal Kunder, Veena Sunder, Ravi Bhat, and is being presented by Roaring Star Sriimurali in theatres.
