Birsa Dasgupta to direct Dev as Byomkesh in Durgo Rohoshyo

Last week, Dev took to Twitter to announce that he will emerge as the new Byomkesh in Sharadindu Bandyopadhyay’s Durgo Rohoshyo. His announcement came after Srijit Mukherji, who was initially scheduled to direct the film, denied Dev’s involvement in Durgo Rohoshyo. However, the actor-producer also said he would announce the new director and cast soon. Finally, it is Birsa Dasgupta will direct the film. 

Talking to Anandabazar on this, Dev said that working on the character of Byomkesh Bakshi is one of the most crucial challenges for him. Addressing Srijit’s tweet, he said, “I got the proposal sometimes back. I was pondering over the offer. Durgo Rohoshyo is panned on a large canvas. This is the biggest challenge in my life. Amid this, he tweeted that he was not thinking of Dev in the character. I was hurt. Probably it would have been better if he did not tag me. But I made up with him. I will have to try harder to fit it Srijit’s films,” said the actor. 

The rights of Durgo Rohoshyo were with Shadow Films’ Shyam Sundar Dey. After an initial discussion with Srijit, the producer and Dev decided to jointly produce the film. Srijit wanted Anirban to be the Byomkesh. According to unauthorised sources, Srijit will direct Durgo Rohoshyo with SVF with Anirban as the iconic Bengali sleuth. Anirban plays Byomkesh in Hoichoi’s web series. The next one is titled Byomkesh O Pinjrapol. The show will be directed by Sudipto Roy. Anirban will be seen as the creator of the show.
