Bison, the Tamil sports drama headlined by actor Dhruv Vikram and directed by Mari Selvaraj, debuted in theatres on Friday. The film is loosely based on the life of kabaddi player Manathi Ganesan and opened to good reviews from critics. But how did Bison perform at the box office?

Bison, the 2025 Tamil film, marked the union of critically acclaimed filmmaker Mari Selvaraj and Dhruv Vikram. Although their collaboration was announced years back, Bison finally got made and hit theatres for Diwali, on October 17.

The sports drama, which also serves as a partial biopic, is based on the life of kabaddi player Manathi Ganesan that Mari Selvaraj has known. At the box office, as per Sacnilk, Bison made Rs 2.5 crore opening. The film is expected to get picked up in the coming days, owing to the Diwali weekend. Given that Bison opened to positive reviews, the word of mouth is also expected to help Bison reach more viewers. However, it also faces tough competition from Pradeep Ranganathan’s Dude, which has made an opening of Rs 10 crore already.

In Bison, Dhruv Vikram plays the role of a young kabaddi player, Kittan, who must face the discrimination and oppression from society before realising his dream to represent his country in kabaddi sports. Dhruv, who has undergone a physical transformation to play his role, is working with Mari Selvaraj for the first time.

Apart from Dhruv, the film also stars Lal, Pasupathy, Ameer, Rajisha Vijayan, Anupama Parameswaran and others. Pa Ranjith is one of the producers of the film, which has music scored by Nivas K Prasanna. Netflix has bagged the post-theatrical streaming rights of the film. An OTT release date is yet to be announced. Bison is Dhruv’s second theatrical release after Adithya Varma.
