By the end of 2024, Netflix made sure we entered the new year with excitement as the streaming giant confirmed their first show for 2025. It is none other than Black Warrant, a show from the same creators of the cult-hit Sacred Games for the same streaming platform. Created by Vikramaditya Motwane and Satyanshu Singh, the show is based on a real-life story from Tihar Jail, where a new jailer enters the system, unaware of the challenges he will face. The show is set to release on January 10, and the makers have shared the trailer. Read on to know everything you should about it.
Sunil Gupta unwittingly steps into the jaws of a system where power and reputation reign, and survival demands a price. Alongside him, two trusted jailers confront Tihar’s notorious inmates and entrenched politics. Armed only with grit and determination, the trio faces towering challenges within Tihar. This never-before-seen account explores the deeply personal stories of inmates, officers, and their complex dynamics. Will they challenge the system and bring change, or will Tihar change them?
From the creative powerhouse of Vikramaditya Motwane and Satyanshu Singh, who serve as showrunners and directors along with Ambiecka Pandit, Arkesh Ajay, and Rohin Raveendran Nair, Black Warrant promises an unfiltered dive into India’s largest prison. Black Warrant is based on Black Warrant: Confessions of a Tihar Jailer, written by Sunil Gupta and Sunetra Choudhury.
Vikramaditya Motwane shares, “Black Warrant offered us the opportunity to explore a world often hidden from view—tough, complicated, and full of contradictions. Sunil’s journey through Tihar Jail provided a unique perspective to capture that complexity. The trailer is just a glimpse of how the series will peel back the layers of a world that is as brutal, complex, and fun as it is. Collaborating with our stellar cast brought incredible nuance to this story, and partnering with Netflix, Applause Entertainment, and Confluence Media helped us craft a narrative that is raw, gripping, and deeply human. I can’t wait for viewers to uncover the humanity and grit within this powerful narrative.”
Witness the untold story behind the walls of Tihar Jail in Black Warrant, only on Netflix on January 10. Stay tuned to OTTplay for more information on this and everything else from the world of streaming and films.
