The Kannada film Blink has been on OTT for more than a year, but that has not stopped its makers from trying to improve its reach among audiences across the country with dubbed versions. The film is already streaming with Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Hindi and Bengali audio options and as of April 25, 2025, the platform – Amazon Prime Video – will include Marathi too.
Blink, directed by debutant Srinidhi Bengaluru and starring Dia-fame Dheekshith Shetty in the lead, had a tough start at the box office, struggling to secure shows and even going without any for a few days early on. It was an uphill struggle for the team, despite fairly positive reviews for the film that employed time travel in the narrative. The film eventually made it to the 50-day mark and then made its way to OTT.
What was interesting about the experiment tried by the team was that the film also explored the Oedipus Complex. Dheekshith was Apurva, a young student living in Bengaluru, who has been made to believe that his father abandoned him and his mother many years ago and is presumed dead. But then, he meets a mysterious old man, Arivu, who tells him that his father may be alive and thriving and that the key to unravelling the truth lies in him travelling back in time and retracing the latter’s steps.
What Apurva finds out in this mission had divided audiences, with some loving the bold direction, and others unable to digest such a trajectory in Kannada cinema. The film also starred Vajradheer Jain, Gopalkrishna Deshpande, Chaithra J Achar, among others.
Dheekshith, who has been making inroads in Telugu cinema and series (Meet Cute), with a few releases lined up, including Girlfriend with Anjaniputhra fame Rashmika Mandanna, will next be seen in Bank of Bhagyalakshmi, which is, as of now, his only other Kannada project. The actor will reunite with Srinidhi for yet another unique project, which involves a found footage narrative. He has also announced a new project with 6-5=2 maker KS Ashok, which will also star Pruthvi Ambaar.
