Academy Award winning filmmaker Steve McQueen’s latest is a World War II drama called Blitz, set at a time when Germany was relentlessly bombing London, and follows a mother’s desperate attempts to find her son, after sending him to the countryside to stay clear of the air raids. The first trailer of Blitz dropped a little while ago and features Academy Award nominee Saoirse Ronan as the mother looking for her son.
The film is an Apple original production and will, therefore, become available on Apple TV after the theatrical run. Blitz is slated to get a limited theatrical release on November 1, followed by a streaming outing on November 22. Blitz is set to have its world premiere on October 9 at the opening night of the BFI London Film Festival.
Written, directed and produced by McQueen, for whom Blitz is his first release since 2018’s Widows, the film also stars Elliot Heffernan, Harris Dickinson, Erin Kellyman, Stephen Graham, Kathy Burke, Leigh Gill, Benjamin Clementine and Paul Weller, among others.
According to the film’s official synopsis, Blitz, follows George (Elliott Heffernan), a 9-year-old boy in World War II London whose mother Rita (Saoirse Ronan) sends him to safety in the English countryside. Defiant and determined to return home to his mom and his grandfather Gerald (Paul Weller) in East London, George embarks on an adventure, only to find himself in immense peril, while a distraught Rita searches for her missing son.
Meanwhile, Apple TV’s upcoming slate also includes Wolfs, starring George Clooney and Brad Pitt, which will be available to stream from September 12. Scarlett Johansson and Channing Tatum’s Fly Me To the Moon does not have a streaming date yet, while Brad Pitt’s F1 is headed to theatres on June 27, 2025.
