After making his web series with Farzi on Prime Video, Shahid Kapoor is all set to be seen in Bloody Daddy, which is his first OTT movie release. On June 9, 2023, JioCinema will stream the film's world premiere. At the trailer launch of Bloody Daddy, Shahid was asked about the coexistence of theatres and OTT in today's times.
The actor stated, "A few years ago, people who were open to change kind of recognised that OTT as a digital platform was going to explode. The accessibility and comfort of that platform cannot be ignored; it is a reality, and it is going to happen. I think we're very fortunate to be in a time where we can divide our energies into separate areas and actually work in separate areas that are very different from each other."
About watching titles on OTT, Shahid said, "I think watching content at home, in the comfort of your house, till the time you want, stopping it, having a meal, and continuing to watch it is a very personal, enjoyable, and comfortable experience."
On watching movies in theatres, the actor went on to say, "Going to a film theatre to watch a film is more like an event experience where you want to go out with the family and have a good time; maybe go out to dinner, go to the mall, watch a movie, make a day out of it."
Shahid added, "Both have their place. I don't see theatre and OTT colliding with each other. I see them coexisting next to each other as two very, very good options."
He further said, "As filmmakers, actors, and content creators, we now have more avenues to choose from. I think the challenge for all of us now is to understand how the entire ecosystem around us has changed. We need to adapt and know which content we want to take on which platform or on which screen size. I think this is what we all need to work towards."
When asked about Bloody Daddy's OTT release, Shahid explained, "So even though a lot of people wanted this film to be in theatres, theatre exhibitors called us up and spoke to us about it. But we kind of stuck to what we truly, truly had envisioned for this film, which was creating a film that is a big screen experience for the OTT platform."
He concluded by stating an example: "I think that is what is happening internationally. If you see a film like The Irishman, for example, when Martin Scorsese, Robert De Niro, and that stellar cast, who are people who are now in their 60s, 70s, and 80s, can recognise that it's time to make that shift as an added option to the fact that you can make movies as well, I think for us younger people, we better wake up to it."
Bloody Daddy also features Diana Penty as the female lead.
