Comedian Bo Burnham has recorded the special alone during the pandemic
Bo Burnham is going back to his roots as a standup comedian. The comedian-turned-actor and director has announced a surprise project on Twitter - his new comedy special on Netflix that will be released later this year.
Burnham, last seen in Emerald Fennell’s Academy Award-winning Promising Young Woman, revealed that he has filmed the special all by himself at home.
With a video that features the end of his last special Make Happy, Burnham tweeted, “Hi. i made a new special. it was filmed by me, alone, without a crew of an audience, over the course of the past year. it is almost finished. i hope you like it (sic).” The comedian is seen playing the piano before the video cuts to him sporting a quarantine beard, looking very different from his clean-shaven self.
This Netflix show, titled Inside, is Burnham’s fourth comedy special. His career began with a YouTube channel that quickly gained subscribers and brought him fame. Though Burnham’s comedy often addresses his new status as a celebrity and his experiences with newfound fame, it is never repetitive.
A challenge that Inside might have posed for Burnham is his inability to communicate with his audience which he is known for. It will be interesting to see how Burnham incorporates that theme into his special.
