However, the film did not get a positive reception from audience, and drew criticism for its writing and screenplay, with many comparing how the film did not serve justice as a follow-up to the 1996 iconic film Indian.

Bobby Simha opened up about the negative reviews that Indian 2 received upon its release. Speaking about this, in a recent interview, the actor said, "Everyone thinks themselves as intelligent. If someone is good, people think that they might appear as fool if they say it's good. So instead, they make up reasons to criticise it. We should not care about them. We need audience, the family audience who liked the film. We don't need intellects and their opinions.

The actor also added that one should not come to conclusion watching Indian 2 alone, since there is a third part in the making, which has much more to offer.

Indian 2, headlined by Kamal Haasan, features a star ensemble, including Bobby Simha, Siddharth, Priya Bhavani Shankar, Rakul Preet Singh, Samuthirakani, and others. Late actors Vivekh and Nedumudi Venu also appear in Indian 2. Towards the end of the film, the makers unveiled a glimpse of third part, which will feature Kamal Haasan in a different avatar, alongside Kajal Aggarwal, set in pre-Independence era.
