This Bollywood star was in talks for the remake of Mohanlal’s cult classic film?
A Bollywood star was in talks to remake Season, which starred Mohanlal in the lead and was directed by auteur Malayalam filmmaker Padmarajan, reveals Bejoy Nambiar.

P Padmarajan is hailed as one of the greatest Malayalam directors, with his films still being revered by other filmmakers, stars and the audiences. Other industry veterans also look up to the auteur’s filmography, seeking to remake his great works. One of his films, Season, with Mohanlal in the lead, was considered for a remake with Bollywood star John Abraham, says director Bejoy Nambiar in an interview with The Cue Studio.
Is Mohanlal’s Season getting a remake
Season is a 1989 Malayalam film, starring Mohanlal and helmed by Padmarajan, who also scripted the movie which attained a cult status over the years. Now, Bejoy Nambiar has remarked that Padmarajan films many filmmakers, including himself, want to remake the auteur’s films.
“There are many filmmakers who would love to remake his film. I know there are 2-3 filmmakers in Bombay who are trying to get the rights to do the remakes. If I am not mistaken, John Abraham was trying to do Season. Someone here (in Malayalam cinema) was trying to remake Season with John Abraham. That's what I heard last, but Season, I love it. It is such a cool film for that time. Such a cool and slick film,” he remarked.
But the director, who recently directed the Hindi movie Tu Yaa Main, said that he likes Innale (another Padmarajan movie), more than Season. He listed his other favorite Padmarajan classics like Aparan, which marked the debut of actor Jayaram and Thoovanathumbikal with Mohanlal.

Penned by Padmarajan, the thriller film stars Mohanlal in the lead role of Jeevan. When the film begins, we see Jeevan in the central jail as a prisoner. In the flashback scenes, Season takes us to the famed coastal beaches of Thiruvananthapuram, where Jeevan is involved in selling smuggled foreign items. But when his friends try to do drug deals, Jeevan too gets pulled into a web of deceit. Though he lands in prison, he plots his revenge.
