Inspired by the life and struggles of three young men from the Koli community, the Aditya Sarpotdar-directed new Marathi film Unaad started streaming on JioCinema from July 8. Featuring Ashitosh Gaikwad, Abhishek Bharate and Chinmay Jadhav as the key characters, the movie has been appreciated by the audience and critics alike.

Also featuring Hemal Ingle, Priyanka Tendolkar, Devika Daftardar, Devendra Pem and Sandesh Jadhav, Unaad is co-produced by Ajit Arora. The plot of the coming-of-age drama film revolves around Bandya and his two companions. They belong to the Konkan-born Koli ethnic group. The three boys embark on a quest in the sea and face certain obstacles along the way. The story is about how they overcome these hardships.

Noted actor Boman Irani recently praised the story of Unaad. “I told everyone not to tell me anything first related to the movie as I wanted to witness it all by myself. It’s the story of how three boys mature over a certain period, and come to realise their faults and responsibilities. I feel every individual will take different things from the film, as they will relate to their own experiences. It’s a film about truth, reality, humanity, love and heartbreak.”

According to Ajit, Unaad is a film that is very close to his heart. “On the premiere night, the reactions that I received from everyone made me realise that I have made a film that has touched the hearts of the audience.”

Adding to that, the director said, “Unaad is a musical film, and there are six songs in it. It is purely a realistic take on current youths of the Koli community. The film showcases the journey of three youths and their struggles.”
