After the lockdown in 2020, many Telugu film stars, directors and producers took the digital medium more seriously and consciously made an effort to woo audiences with content that arrives directly to one’s home. When the opening of theatres wasn’t a certainty for a brief phase, the industry invested a lot in OTT content.

Boo, the horror thriller, is one such film shot when the intensity of COVID-19 was yet to slow down in the country. The film has an ensemble cast bringing together Rakul Preet Singh, Monica, Nivetha Pethuraj, Megha Akash, Manjima Mohan, Vidyu Raman and Vishwak Sen in pivotal roles. AL Vijay, who helmed Abhinetri, Thalaiva and Kanam earlier, is the director.

While there was no clarity about the OTT platform in which Boo would land, the film is now finally streaming on Jio Cinema for free. The thriller is bankrolled by Ramanjaneyulu Javvaji, M Raja Shekar Reddy, Jyoti Deshpande under Sarvanth Ram Creations and Shri Shirdi Movies. GV Prakash Kumar, who was in the news recently for Sir, Tiger Nageswara Rao, is the composer.

“The next time you get a hiccup don’t look for water, look around, it could be a ghost,” the makers describe the plot. The story revolves around a group of women who discuss Halloween stories one night and a series of spooky incidents puts their life in jeopardy. There’s a strange link between a character’s cough and the story of a haunted house. The gripping trailer wins your curiosity.

This is Rakul and Vishwak Sen’s first OTT release in Telugu. The latter and actress Nivetha Pethuraj earlier collaborated for Paagal and the recently released Das Ka Dhamki. The promos suggest that Rakul has a role that provides an opportunity to reinvent herself in an unexplored genre in her career. Jio Cinema’s other big releases include Bro Daddy, Vikram Vedha, Inspector Avinash, Bhediya.
