It is interesting to see all the production houses and filmmakers digging into their archives to find films that turned out iconic in the past to see if they still have the potential to become franchises. The year 2023 in Bollywood was all about old is gold, and there is no way the trend around it is fading anytime soon, at least for the next few years. As Sunny Deol bounced back to our screen as Tara Singh in Gadar 2, it re-established the faith of the makers that the craze for the quintessential Bollywood hero is still quite evident. So they are all trying to bring their contribution to the table. One of these efforts is Border 2, a sequel to the iconic film from the late 1990s that changed the grammar of films about the defence forces and welcomed drama into it.
Border 2 Shooting Update
While Sunny had himself said that there were indeed plans for Border 2, but it did not get made, and sometime later news came in that the film is now actually happening (thanks to the aforementioned trend), it was then revealed that he will be joined by Ayushmann Khurrana. Yes, in case you were uninitiated, it is reported that Ayushmann will be a part of Border 2 alongside Deol, as both men will be leading the movie. While the makers are mostly tight-lipped about the project, that is not stopping the rumour mill from churning any faster. As per the latest reports, we might have understood when the film goes on floors. Read on to learn everything you should know about the same.
Now, as per the latest Pinkvilla report, we may have gotten our hands on the schedule for Border 2. The said report says that the makers of the film have been working round the clock to bring everything to reality, as the movie has been on the back burner for quite a while and they don't want to wait anymore. The team has almost finished the pre-production, and the actors and team can go on floors with the film in October 2024.
A source close to the developments said, "The team behind Border 2 has been working tirelessly to prepare everything and it's been a long time in the making as they wanted to do justice to the magnitude of the first film. Now, as the preparations are almost done, the team will begin shooting. As it stands now, the team will begin shooting in October."
About Border 2
While most of it has been kept under wraps, it is being said that Border 2 will be set on the same night as the events of the first film unfolded. But there have been no more updates on the same. The film will be directed by Anurag Singh and is targeting the Republic Day weekend of the year 2026 for release. The original was directed by JP Dutta and also starred Suniel Shetty, Akshaye Khanna, Jackie Shroff, Pooja Bhatt, Rakhee, and Tabu. There are no reports on whether anyone from the cast, apart from Sunny, revives their parts or not.
