Bajrang Dal militants in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh, blocked Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt from visiting the revered Mahakal temple on Tuesday night due to their alleged comments regarding beef consumption and viewings of the film Brahmastra.

An official from the Mahakal police station confirmed the incident and stated the demonstrators were dispersed with cane charges. According to eyewitnesses, the protesters did not let Ranbir and Alia access the temple grounds despite the cane charge.

When Ranbir and Alia arrived at the location to have darshan, Bajrang Dal members shouted "Jai Shriram" in response.

Ankit Choube, the leader of the Bajrang Dal, told reporters that they would not permit them to pray at the holy Mahakaleshwar temple as a few days ago Ranbir had said that he liked to eat mutton, poultry, and beef in non-vegetarian dishes.

He asserted that even Alia had suggested that those who are interested in seeing her film Brahmastra should see it, but others who are not interested shouldn't.

According to temple priest Ashish Pujari, Ayan Mukerji, the director of the Brahmastra movie, visited the temple despite the protest.

According to the police officer, they have initiated action against a right-wing activist under Indian Penal Code Section 353 (assault or criminal force to prevent a public servant from performing his duty).

Earlier, in an Instagram video, Alia was heard saying that Ranbir, Ayan, and she were on their way to the Mahakaleshwar Temple in Ujjain. On the eve of their release, the filmmaker added that he was pleased that they found the time to go.

Alia also shared that Ayan had gone for the motion poster launch, and Ranbir and she are going now before the film debut, so they are extremely happy. Ranbir concluded by stating, "See you at the movies, dhanyawad."

Brahmastra is slated for release on September 9, 2022.
