Bridgerton season 3 has been making headlines ever since the British show released on Netflix. There are many clues as to whose story will be explored next, after Colin Bridgerton and Penelope Featherington’s love life was explored in the recently released series (based on Julia Quinn’s Romancing Mister Bridgerton). Among the many guesses, there is also speculation that there will be more to Smythe-Smiths. Jess Brownell, who helmed the series, hinted at the spin-off of the characters, much like it happens in the books.

What Jess said

Jess Brownell told Deadline that the only reason Smythe-Smiths were not included in the story up to this point is because there needed to be justice for their characters, and that the characters’ story needed to be told appropriately. “We’re waiting for the right opportunity,” Jess said. She confirmed being in talks to bring them in limelight.

The spin-off

The Smythe-Smiths got a spin-off after Bridgerton released as novels. Thus, the idea of them having a spin-off on the show as well is not a far-fetched thought. However, Jess wants a big spin-off and since that would take some time, she requested some patience with regards to it.

Smythe-Smiths, in the books

While Bridgerton had eight editions, each of them exploring a love story of a Bridgerton, the Smythe-Smiths got a spin-off of their own in the Julia Quinn novels. They had four editions, namely Just Like Heaven (Honoria and Marcus), A Night Like This (Anne and Daniel), The Sum of All Kisses (Sarah and Hugh) and The Secrets of Sir Richard Kenworthy (Iris and Richard).

Currently though, the focus is on Bridgerton season 3 part 2. The same will be out on Netflix on June 13.

About Bridgerton franchise

The first season of the show, released in 2020, was based on The Duke and I, which told the story of Daphne and Simon Basset. The second season, out in 2022, was based on The Viscount Who Loved Me. This explored the story of Anthony and Katherine Sheffield. While it should have followed the love story between Benedict and Sophia Beckett, as per the third novel, An Offer From A Gentleman, the makers decided to skip the tale for the fourth novel. Thus, nobody is sure which story will be explored next.
