Luke Thompson's Benedict Bridgerton, the second eldest son of the Bridgerton family, will be the protagonist of the upcoming fourth season of the critically acclaimed drama series Bridgerton on Netflix. Production on the show has wrapped up. An all-new love interest and some new social problems are in store for the eight episodes that make up the upcoming season, which promises to be a modern take on the traditional fairy tale romance.

Cinderella twist

An important scene occurs during Lady Bridgerton's famous masquerade ball at the beginning of the season when Benedict meets the beautiful Lady in Silver, who turns out to be the cunning maid Sophie Baek (Yerin Ha). At this point, Benedict's love tale begins, and Thompson remarks on how captivating it is. "The scripts that Jess [Brownell] and her team have come up with are dynamite. They’re really, really, really exciting," Thompson stated. He described the storyline as "a bit of a twist on Cinderella… It’s such a great story, but it’s also, I hope, really relatable."

The show's creator, Brownell, emphasised the season's major conflicts. "What’s striking about Season 4," Thompson informed Tudum, "is that it’s the struggle between a proper old-school fairy tale — the romance of it — and the actual reality of the world." He continued, "You have to hold both of them—the romance and the reality—in your hand. In its best version, ‘true love’ happens in the middle of that."

Sophie Baek's challenges and social status

"What drew me to Sophie was that she immediately has obstacles — something that she constantly has to overcome," Ha explained, referring to how she fell in love with her character at first sight. She strives to hide her feelings from Benedict and struggles with her social status.

In addition to the main romance, the new season will feature developments involving familiar individuals. New promotional photographs recently reunited Nicola Coughlan's Penelope Featherington and Claudia Jessie's Eloise Bridgerton. Their closer relationship has been confirmed by showrunner Brownell, who said, "They’re more bonded than ever! Their trials and tribulations last season have added new depth to their friendship, and we’re excited for viewers to see how their relationship looks now that they’ve each grown up a little."

New faces in the Mayfair social scene

Lady Araminta Gun (Katie Leung) closely monitors the Li sisters during their debut, while the arrival of Rosamund (Michelle Mao) and Posy (Isabella Wei) will enliven the Mayfair social scene. Brownell outlined the new dynamic in the family, stating that Lady Araminta "has raised them to be perfect debutantes."

"A marriage mart pro chess player" is Rosamund's mother's protégé, while "dreamy and often unserious, much to her mother’s disapproval" describes Posy. At first, Amaminta and Rosamund don't seem to notice the Bridgertons, except for Benedict, who is quite the attraction this season. Their attention, though, is laser-sharp. Benedict becomes the centre of Rosamund's attention.

Returning cast members

Season 2's leading woman, Simone Ashley, and her husband, Jonathan Bailey, will both be returning, much to the delight of fans. Several famous faces, such as Lady Danbury (Adjoa Andoh), Alice Mondrich (Emma Naomi), and Brimsley (Hugh Sachs), are back in the cast, joining the likes of Queen Charlotte (Golda Rosenheuvel).

Production is now taking place on a brand new two-acre backlot at Shepperton Studios, just outside of London, as the show's scope continues to expand. Houses on Mayfair Street in this enormous new construction are exact reproductions of Georgian and Regency styles, created by the team of production designer Alison Gartshore.

Luke Thompson's confidence in leading the season

As he moves into the spotlight, Thompson expressed gratitude for the established team and confidence in his abilities. He shared, "To get to head a show that has been absolutely tried and tested? And to be surrounded by the cast, creative team, and production crews that I know? I think, ‘Well, why should I be nervous?’"

Season six, which is being developed by showrunner Brownell and executive produced by Shonda Rhimes, Betsy Beers, Tom Verica, and Chris Van Dusen, will feature an unusual blend of high society intrigue and the intimate, betrayed relationship between Benedict and his Lady in Silver.
