Brinda Acharya, who was most recently seen in veteran filmmaker S Narayan’s latest, Maarutha, has another release in only a week’s time. This time, the actress is part of a comedy heist drama called Bank of Bhagyalakshmi, which has Dheekshith Shetty in the lead. The actress plays an employee of the cooperative society that a bunch of amateur thieves lay siege on, in the film that hits theatres on November 27. The film fit in perfectly with Brinda’s attempts to do different characters in each project, she says.

“As an actor, I want to be able to show audiences all that I am capable of with each passing project. It’s what I had been following since my debut in Premam Poojyam. But after Kousalya Supraja Rama, most of the offers that came required me to sport curly hair and be all bubbly, like my character Shivani. At the time, Bank of Bhagyalakshmi came like a breath of fresh air and was a welcome break from the bubbly girl roles that were coming to me. What helped is that it was also a film in a very different genre,” Brinda told Cine Store during the promotions of the film.

Incidentally, the actress almost didn’t sign up for the film, as director Abhishek M did not turn up on time for the script narration. “I had just finished one meeting, and had another one lined up. Abhishek came an hour late, which annoyed me then, but then I was taken in by his narration,” says the actress, adding that the biggest challenge was to be subtle and underplay her emotions.

This, says Brinda, went against her grain as a person. “I am very expressive in real life. So, to come across as serious and poised was a bit of a task for me,” she says. In the film, Brinda is also paired with Dheekshith, who leads the thieves on a heist of the bank. Whether or not she knew them earlier or is an unwitting hostage like the rest of the people in the bank, will be revealed when the film releases. The film also stars Gopalkrishna Deshpande, Srivatsa, Ashwin Rao Pallaki, Sadhu Kokila, Sruthi Hariharan, among others.
