Samuthirakani, who directed Sambho Siva Sambho and Jendapai Kapiraju in Telugu previously, is returning as a filmmaker in the industry with Bro, the remake of his Tamil web film Vinodhaya Sitham. Bro, that stars Pawan Kalyan, Sai Dharam Tej, is releasing this Friday. At the pre-release event, Pawan Kalyan was all praise for the director’s commitment to understand Telugu for Bro.
He claimed that he became a fan of Samuthirakani during the shoot. “We come across many people who don’t know to read, write or speak Telugu in our states, mix it with English and don’t do a good job with either of the languages. Samuthirakani is special because he comes from Tamil Nadu and is alien to culture. One day, I was shocked to see him reading the script in Telugu.”
When Pawan Kalyan saw Samuthirakani reading a script on Bro sets, he thought the latter would have translated it in Tamil/English to read it. “However, he had learnt to read Telugu for a year just for the film alone. I was truly spellbound and inspired.” To repay his gratitude, the star promise that he would soon give a speech Tamil in Tamil Nadu and render Thirukkural soon.
Pawan Kalyan stated that his initiative is a firm reminder of how one must embrace one’s roots. He believes that great writers and directors and quality cinema could be produced only when one understands their roots and identity. “Samuthirakani managed to write a story because of his understanding of his culture,” he added.
The Vakeel Saab star, who has watched the final copy recently, shared that Bro is a funny, emotional, entertaining film that’s sure to move one to tears. “When I watched Bro, I felt it is a film that’ll make you cry, laugh and erupt out of joy. I wholeheartedly thank Samuthirakani for making such a good product.”
