The '2023 MAMA Awards' concluded its two-day spectacle at the Tokyo Dome in Japan on November 28 and 29. This event, organized by CJ ENM and presented by Samsung Galaxy, featured Jeon Somi as the host for the first day and the renowned South Korean actor Park Bo-gum hosting the second day.

Despite being broadcast live on various streaming platforms, including YouTube, the 2023 MAMA Awards faced a noticeable decline in global viewership, as pointed out by observant netizens. A screenshot shared on a popular online community in Korea revealed that the livestream had garnered fewer than 40,000 viewers.

Discussions among Korean netizens delved into potential reasons for the reduced viewership of the 2023 MAMA Awards. Speculations centred around the perceived impact of a less substantial artist lineup compared to the previous year, with many highlighting the absence of the globally renowned boy band, BTS, as a significant factor contributing to the decline.

This comes in contrast to BTS's historic achievements at MAMA 2023, where they secured the most Daesangs in history, reaching a total count of 21. Additionally, BTS made history by becoming the first act to amass 50 trophies in MAMA history, setting and extending numerous records in the process.

Online users shared comments such as, "I wasn't even aware that MAMA took place," "Having just one BTS member could have attracted at least a million viewers," and "The viewer gap between when BTS appears and when they don't is significant," and "The absence of notable stars may have impacted the show's viewership."
